I was lucky enough to find some time today to walk into a great little shop called Making it [The Makehouse?] on Fort street.

In this quaint store I found more than what mere physical creations can evoke. I found fond child hood memories.  Vintage patterns for dressmaking.

My Mom was a self proclaimed seamstress. Making all her clothes by hand from patterns bought at the fabric store. I spent hours at thatstore helping pick out the latest fashion. More hours having great conversations with her as she laid out the materials and patterns across her bed. A week later, the conversation would be about which colour of shoes would go with the new dress...

The owner of The Makehouse has vintage patterns from the 60s, 70s, and - as she showed me her new stash of patterns from the Mad Men era - the 30s and 40s. She will be preparing no less than 8 looks for this years Fashion Splash show.

Looking forward to seeing her works on the catwalk.

Joseph
